I AM FAMOUS!!!

and everything you ever wanted to know about trends in flooring and walls.

(Toronto Interior Design Show 2017 – Part 3)

As promised I’ve got your back when it comes to trends in flooring and walls!

When you think of your dream career what do you imagine?

Veterinarian? (massive dog lovers here!) Event Planner? (I love events!)

How about Buyer of Vintage Moroccan Rugs??? (I totally want to go to Morocco!)

Yep – that’s right at Elte, their Rug Buyer goes to Morocco to hand select vintage Moroccan rugs that are at least 40 years old. Andthey are all in a modernized palette! Elte is the place to go if you want to know what’s what in trends. I can tell you that what’s what is layering rugs. They don’t have to be Vintage Moroccan Rugs in a Modernized Palette either! Here are some tips:

  • Layering over Broadloom? (which is wall to wall carpet) Use a flat or tight weave carpet. Not a plush carpet – too much! Too 80’s!
  • Layer rugs made from natural fibres over rugs made from natural fibres OR layer hand (Which is the way something feels) over natural materials
  • Make sure the rug is heavy if you want it to lay flat (which you do, btw!)
  • If you are using a rug with an organic shape to layer (like a cowhide) you can be pretty random when you throw it down to layer it – perfect is not best!

Confused? Have questions? Need more help? Ask me in the comments!

And uhhh…people! This floor shimmers! Probably not as much as Beyoncé’s toilet (I can’t let go of a good thing) but still! (What would Beyoncé think if she knew we talked about her toilet so much?) Made of porcelain, can you imagine it in a luxurious master bathroom? (With Beyoncé’s toilet?) (See? I. Can’t. Stop.) I’m also brainstorming ways it could be part of a kitchen concept.

As you can see there is actually a lot of variation with trends in wall tiles. Traditional brick patterns, Art Deco inspired with golds, blacks and whites. Florals, Chevron (still…) and a Moroccan Star inspired pattern.

You could DIY this wood wall. I am telling you – you could make this. Really cool, right? This booth had a pretty big crowd around it. I like how you could chose the natural or colourful version!

Guess What? This wall is reclaimed and rustic wood. Got ya! It is actually concrete. Yes. Concrete. Lightweight concrete panels clad the wall. Dekko Concrete has a variety of styles and the panels average 4lbs per sq.ft. Isn’t that amazing? You can even get panels that look like a world map! Maybe even Morocco!

I can’t handle this fireplace in all of it’s vertical wall glory! Small space perfection. (Do you think you know who has one?)

Also. I am Famous. And embarrassed. But who cares ‘cause I am famous.

Design Students from Conestoga College are impressed with our Wicanders Hydrocork floor. Have a listen.#ids17 #ids #toronto #interiordesign #cork #flooring #canada

How was your lunch with Beyoncé? Did she like the tiles 😉

Lunch with Beyoncé was uneventful. I ate a double bacon cheeseburger, french fries with extra ketchup, a beer and 2 slices of triple chocolate cake. Beyoncé drank water. She is undecided about the tiles. I am advising her on how she could incorporate them into her bathroom area…..
